PGY-3 EDUCATION
Ask any Case Neurology resident about Neuromuscular
Medicine and the EMG laboratory
at University Hospitals - Case Medical Center, and they will tell
you that it is one of the highlights of the program.
Residents work closely with technologists, fellows and attendings in the EMG laboratory
and Neuromuscular Clinic during their second
year of residency training. The EMG laboratory
sees over 2000 patients per year and has sites at
University Hospitals and five suburban satellite
locations.
What makes the rotation so popular is the
large EMG attending staff that is
dedicated to teaching. As part of the
rotation, residents receive a copy of Dr. Katirji's
book, Electromyography in Clinical Practice, and a copy of
Drs. Preston and Shapiro's book,
Electromyography and Neuromuscular Disorders.
Similar to the 8-week rotation in the Comprehensive
Epilepsy Program, residents have a robust schedule
during their 8-weeks in Neuromuscular Medicine and EMG,
including readings, lectures, interactive teaching
sessions with faculty, clinic sessions, and hands-on
learning of nerve conduction studies and EMG. Of
note, many of our residents elect to pursue additional
fellowship training in EMG and Neuromuscular disorders
once their residency is completed, a testament to the
interest fostered during their exposure during
residency. |
