Research: We have one of the premier research divisions in Family Medicine in the nation, with investigators advancing the science of primary care. Research projects include: Cancer epidemiology and prevention, genetics and primary care, obesity prevention and treatment in minority women, substance abuse education and prevention and physician-patient communication.
Editorial Publications: Our department is the home of the editorial office of the Annals of Family Medicine (www.AnnFamMed.org). This journal, funded by national Family Medicine organizations, is unique in its interactive online format.
Clinical Services: We are proud to be one of the largest medical groups providing primary care services in and around the University Circle area. Our joint faculty-resident practice provides a model of care for patients from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. In its second year, our House Calls program is providing well-needed care for disadvantaged elderly in the inner city neighborhoods.
Educational Programs: Our residency program now boasts nearly 200 graduates, many of whom are in leadership positions nationally and internationally. As part of our innovative program, residents have the opportunity to complete a Master's of Public Health (MPH), an international health track, and fellowships in women's health, operative obstetrics and academic faculty development. Our faculty members are actively involved in the redesign of the curriculum at the CASE School of Medicine and mentoring students on research projects.
Adolescent Health: Among a myriad of community-based initiatives, our Adolescent Health Division just completed a Youth Behavioral Risk Survey for teens in the public schools to aid in the development of community outreach programs.
The Department of Family Medicine is well positioned to meet the current challenges of clinical excellence, research and scholarship, civic professionalism, and quality educational programs that train tomorrow's doctors today, furthering our mission of:
“Integrating patient care, teaching and research to prevent disease and promote the health of individuals, families and communities.”
